About GWFA

The Global Walking Football Alliance (GWFA) is the international home for walking football: a sport built on the same passion as the professional game, adapted so more people can keep playing it for longer.

We were founded on a simple belief: walking football deserves the same structure, recognition, and support that every other form of football enjoys. That means real standards, real pathways for national associations and clubs, and, in time, a real seat at the table alongside football's established governing bodies.

02

Our Mission

Our mission is to grow walking football as a genuine, permanent part of the global game, not as a separate movement running alongside football, but as part of it.

We do this by:

  • Uniting national associations, clubs, and leagues across every continent under one shared set of standards
  • Working toward formal relationships with FIFA, UEFA, and other confederations and national federations, so walking football has a recognised place within football's existing structures
  • Supporting the health, wellbeing, and social connection that walking football brings to players of all ages and abilities
  • Championing accessibility, so no one is shut out of the game because of age, fitness, or ability

03

Why “Alliance”?

We chose the word deliberately. Football's national and continental authorities have earned their role as custodians of the game, and they're understandably protective of it. GWFA isn't built to compete with that. It's built to work within it.

As an alliance of clubs, associations, and players, we aim to offer FIFA, UEFA, and national federations a structure they can integrate with, not a rival to negotiate against. We're a collaborative partner, not a competing governing body. That's the whole point of the name.

04

Who We Serve

GWFA is built for the whole walking football community: players finding their way back to the game, grassroots clubs growing week by week, national associations looking for international recognition, and the governing bodies who want a credible, unified partner to work with.

Whether you're lacing up your boots for the first time in twenty years, organising a local league, or representing a national association, there's a place for you in the Global Walking Football Alliance.
